It doesn't matter the conditions, your phone bill can really start to add up over time. This can be extremely frustrating of course, and cause just about anyone to lose sleep over night. Rather than pumping away at a stress ball and taking gobs of melatonin to calm down, how about you cut your phone bill half? Ahh, yes, but only if we knew how - oh wait, we just might!
There are plenty of ideas, none of which are set in stone, for decreasing the amount of money that you end up spending every month or so on your cell bill.
The first suggestion would be to get rid of your land line altogether if possible. Many people start to realize that they are no longer dependent on their old home phone at all, but for various reasons never really quite get around to giving it the old axe. If this is you, then make this a top priority.
Get on a family plan. Getting your whole family (if you are raising kids and so forth) on the same phone plan can really mean huge savings. Next, if this is the case, make sure that you use your anytime minutes wisely, and in many phone packages there will be free weekend minutes, or free receiving and outgoing calls after say 9 PM. This is the best time to reschedule many things right here. Take advantage of such options.
Decrease your texting. Text messaging can be cheaper, but a lot of people are simply addicted to texting all the time. Even if you have a nice set amount of text messages that you can send and receive every month, say 1500+ - you would be surprised at how quickly you can eat through those without even realizing it. Be careful!
Pay as you go plans are wonderful, because they force you to have to budget, however you can get so good at this that it starts creating good budgeting habits in other areas of your financial spending, and it keeps you sharp. Plus you will know exactly what you are spending and how it is being spent, to the point where you can pretty much rely upon this each and every billing cycle.
Skype! Skype is one of my all time favorite services out there. You can make calls for free anywhere around the world as long as its Skype-to-Skype. A lot of people work all day long on their computers, and if this is the case for you - why not take advantage of this wonderful service?
If you need to use Skype to call people's land line or cell phones, then you will have to pay a fee, but it is extremely cheap to say the least.
At first I thought that the quality of the calls would be cruddy, but they are in fact ten times better than with any cell phone, plus you have instant messaging and video cam chat if you are fond of that.
This concludes the ideas on how to cut your phone bill in half, and to be a little more inspirational - there are tons more things that you can do to be more frugal and put some change in your pocket each month.
However, this is the basic idea, and here are some hopefully inspirational concepts to get you started and in that mindset of thinking.
