There are eleven counties being served by area code 475, which is an overlay of area code 203, with eighty plus cities and towns within this district.
Some of these towns are Bethel, Bridgeport, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, Easton, Greenwich, Madison, Middlebury, Naugatuck, New Canaan, New Fairfield, New Haven, Newtown, North Branford, North Haven, Norwalk, Orange, Redding, Seymour, Shelton, Stratford, Weston and Woodbury.
Because of a needed for area code overlays, it was suggested that several more be created, and so in the year 2009, overlay 475 went into effect for the area of Connecticut that reaches from the western half of the state and covers much of what is referred to as the tri state region.
It also branches into the city New Haven. 203 was originally the only area code that was needed to cover the entire geography of the state of Connecticut, but now much of area code 860 handles that job, while the 203/475 overlay is limited to a much smaller portion of the land.
