Area code 970 covers a very large amount of counties in Colorado. Thirty-seven to be exact, and some of them are Jefferson, Montrose, Weld, Summit, Eagle and Dolores.

Within these thirty-seven counties there are one hundred and ninety-nine cites and towns, and some of them that are worth giving a shout out to are Aspen, Evergreen, Red Feather Lakes, Pleasant View, Lazear, Loveland, Fort Morgan, Bayfield and Mancos.

This area code also has well over five hundred extensions. 558 to be exact. The population of area code 970 is less than one million at the moment, with nearly all being whites, Hispanics being the second in terms of population size and then followed by blacks.

This area code was created in 1995 as a split from the much older area code 303, which originally covered all of the state, and now is reduced to the central most area of Colorado along with 720.

Area code 970 covers all of the northern parts of the state, the entire east side of the state, and about half of the southern side of Colorado on the east section of the state.
