HISTORY OF AREA CODE:

Area code 870 was the very first of the state of Arkansas's area codes to split away from the original and famous area code five zero one (501), which is more well known because it is one of the original eighty-six area codes issues by NANPA in 1947.

At the time of writing this, it is widely predicted that the last of any unassigned phone numbers under this area code will come up totally short by the year twenty-thirteen (2013), and an overlay for this has been planned.

This area code covers several cities, including the legendary town of Texarkana, known for sitting on the state line of both the states of Arkansas and Texas.

This area code covers a large amount of counties, with sixty-four in all and a massive three hundred and seventy-five cities (375).

Population of this area code is nearly 1.2 million residents, with whites making up the majority of the populous, blacks coming in second, followed by Hispanics.
