Area code 623 covers only two counties, parts of Maricopa and Yavapai, but is spread out across a grand total of twenty-five cities, including the likes of Cave Creek, Morristown, Sun City and Sun City West and Tonopah.

This telephone area code was split off from area code 602 on April Fools Day (April First) nineteen ninety-nine. This happen because Phoenix was in desperate need of a second area code to serve the area.
