The 480 area code is a small one considering that it serves just two counties, and it was split from area code 602. Phoenix hit a major boom during the nineties and so the need to split into a new area code was a natural one.
Several of the major and more well known establishments under this area code include Norther Phoenix, Scottsdale and Mesa.
Many schools are served under area code 480 including Mesa Community College, Polytech branch of Arizona State University, and Penn Foster.
Scottsdale is also the place where Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpiece and famous winter home can be located.
Also plenty of radio and television studios can be found in the area like KDKB 93.3 FM and KESZ 99.9 FM, and plenty of well known figures of hailed from this neck of the woods like Phillip Darrell Duppa, Steve George and Eric Crown.
Numerous films were made in this area as well. Some of which are Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Wayne's World and the original 3:10 to Yuma, and not to mention Johnny Depp's underground yet masterful work Dead Man which featured a soundtrack by Neil Young.
Area code 480 also covers 20 major cities which at the time of writing this encompasses a population of about one point 8 (1.8) million Arizonian residents.
