Area code 334 was created as a split from are code 205 and it covers much of the south eastern and part of the central region of the state of Alabama.
334 is some what historical in the sense that it was one of the earliest area codes to break the common cycle of N0X and N1X NANPA patterning, meaning that the middle number it not 0 or 1.
Much like most transitions of area codes as splits, the original 205 was used for a few months in order to give people enough time to make the adjustment to the new 334.
334 covers a fairly wide portion of Alabama, encompassing well over one million residents and one hundred sixty cities including Montgomery and Dothan.
It sports its fair share of print and media and some of the radio stations that hail from this area under the area code 334 include WWMG, WTVY and WAIQ 26, and some of the universities in the region also include Alabama State University, Auburn Montgomery and Wallace Community College.
There are also plenty of note worthy people who hail from this part of Alabama including the legendary leader of the civil rights movement Martin Luther King.
