Delaware area code 302 is supplied to only seven counties, but serves a total of fifty-six cities or towns. Some of these places include Ellendale, Delmar, Middletown, Felton, Bethany Beach, Viola and Rehoboth Beach.
It also has a total of 480 exchanges. The population that is currently being served by area code 302 is about eight hundred thousand residents. Within these numbers whites make up the largest part, while blacks are next and then followed by the Hispanic population, and women outnumber men by a few figures.
This area code is also one of the oldest that was ever established, all the way back in nineteen forty-seven by the NANP (North American Numbering Plan).
Because the state of Delaware is so small in both land mass as well as population, area code 302 is the only area code serving the entire state, much like 202 serves all of the Washington, D.C. area (despite the fact that its not a a state).
This probably means that like 202, 302 will not run out any time soon, as there is enough room for plenty of exchanges to carry over for years to come.
There are several colleges and universities residing under this area code in the state of Delaware like Delaware Technical & Community College, and the Goldey-Beacom College.
