Its pretty common to need directions to get somewhere, or even sometimes out of pure curiosity just to know where a place is located. In this day and age its even super common to have mapping technology on most cell phones, but for those times when you can't rely nor use GPS, a computer with a simple connection to the internet can really do the trick. So, to make things super easy, here is a list of some of the top map sources that can be found online.
1. http://maps.google.com - one of the oldest and most trust worthy sources of information is google maps. What makes it so great is if you look to the left of the screen once you go there, you will see a link that says get directions and another that says My Maps. Both are extremely helpful, especially the Get Directions link as you can plug in a starting and ending destination and get clear-sighted instructions on how to get there.
2. http://www.mapquest.com - Map Quest is probably the grand daddy of all direction sites. Its also one of the easiest to use, which is why so many people like it so much. Just plug in a vague idea of where you want to go, and then narrow it down from there, or pop in an address to see how to get there.
3. http://maps.yahoo.com - Yahoo is also another great source for learning about places and how to get to them. This one too has been around for a while with the highly respected search engine and email service. Just plug in points A and B and they will help you get there.
4. http://www.bing.com/maps - Bing is a newer source of information, but none the less powerful. They too now have a map service which can give you wonderful insight into where you are going. Much like Google's mapping service, with Bing you can also see street level views which is really and can give you a good idea of what the place you are headed to is going to look like.
5. http://www.maps.com - Not an online mapping resource, but rather a paper printed form of Atlases and travel maps, maps.com is a great place to get many different varieties of topography. They do have digital pieces, but you have to pay for them, however if you are also into antique maps then this is a great place to find those things as well.
6. http://www.mapblast.com - Finally, Map Blast is a service that a lot of people are unfamiliar with in the world of all things topography. Map Blast is MSN's form of the service. What? all other search engines and email services see to offer this feature, why would MSN? Above all, you'll probably have the most respect for their easy to use "paste an address" feature, which will save you a couple of Aspirin.
